J.B. Smith, 83, of Denton went to be with the LORD on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born July 4, 1929 in Farmers Branch to Omar K. and Alsa Modesta Jackson Smith.
J.B was a member of the Farmers Branch Volunteer Fire Department and then graduated from Simmons Fire College in Dallas, TX. He retired from the Dallas Fire Department as a Dallas Fire and Rescue officer after 26 years of service.
He was a member the Stanfield Lodge #217 in Denton, and was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason in Dallas.
As a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Denton he served as a greeter and was a great encourager.
He is survived by his wife, Herta of Denton; daughters, Beth Holland and husband William of Aubrey and Loretta Miller and husband Richard of Uniontown, PA; sister, Earline Dooley of Dorchester, TX; 4 grandchildren; Michael Allen, Cary Allen, Cara Villanueva and Katie Miller; and 8 great grandchildren.
He married Herta Schroder Haskins on November 29, 1992 in Pilot Point.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Denton with Dr. Jeff Williams and Rev. Cliff Feeler officiating. Burial will follow at Cooper Creek Cemetery.
